Who is Vivien Schapera?

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Vivien moved to the USA in 1991. She obtained her degrees in Psychology at the University of Cape Town (M.A. 1984) and completed her training in the Alexander Technique at the Constructive Teaching Center in London (Certified 1983.) In addition to these academic pursuits, Vivien studied martial arts, achieving a 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo; with past lives author, Brian Weiss, and with crystal author, Melody,

As an accomplished practitioner, Vivien is also a teacher of teachers: In 1993, Vivien and her husband, Neil, founded Alexander Technique of Cincinnati, and in 1999, Vivien founded FourWinds Academy for the Healing Arts & Sciences, a school for training Healers. FourWinds Academy incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2000.

Vivien has published several books: The Complete Guide to Crystal Surgery (2020); How to Establish and Maintain a Strong Client Base (1996); Everyday Magic (2002); How to Lose Weight and Gain Money A Program for Putting Your Life in Order, with co-author Drew Logan (2004) and Guided Lessons for Students of the Alexander Technique, with co-authors Nancy Dawley and Neil Schapera. Vivien writes articles on request for newspapers and magazines, most notably The Energy of Money for Massage & Bodywork (2004)

Crystals and stones populate every corner of Viven’s work and home life, but Vivien is not only in tune with crystals and minerals. Vivien and Neil live in close harmony with the animal and plant kingdoms too – they have 2 rescue cats, Birdy and Wolfie, and from spring to fall they are avid gardeners.

To add dimension, in an annual cycle, Vivien and Neil immerse themselves in each of the kingdoms: At the end of January they go to Tucson for the gigantic gem and mineral trade show; then, they return to South Africa and go on safari, and over Christmas, when the Midwest is blanketed in winter, they visit an island in Florida to enjoy their love of Nature Each of the kingdoms is a major resource to them – providing a special way to rejuvenate the spirit and recharge the soul.

The Key to Unlocking the Free Mind

"Letting Go" Tuesdays, 6pm PT

The next time you run into some familiar blockage or begin to feel unsuited to face some new and difficult personal challenge, don't do what you've always done before. Don't try to think your way around it. You no longer want a way around your troubles because what goes around, comes around! What you want is to grow beyond the level of that disturbance. And to do that, you must not act from it.

So don't allow yourself to be pulled down into any anxious concern or confusion over not knowing what to do about your present condition. What you really want is an insight into your situation, not a fight with it. The two have nothing in common. So, make it clear to yourself once and for all: nothing that hounds you can help you.

Draw yourself back from your usual thinking. Quietly observe the "me" mind racing around looking for the shelter of a conclusion it can recognize. Have nothing to do with its frantic motion. You've gone as far as you can go with what you know. Now it's time to know that, so that you can let what you know go, and let something unthinkable occur to you. Just relax.

Pressuring yourself to come up with a happy ending to a sad or shaky situation only goes to show you still believe that you can resolve these troubles. But if you could have, you would have by now. Besides, the "me" mind wants you to confuse these feelings of pressure for being some proof of personal progress. It's done its job well. After all these years you're afraid to live without this feeling of habitually prodding yourself, for fear that without it, you might get stuck! This powerful insight releases you from the pressure of wanting anything from yourself.

Now you've done what you can do. You've prepared the state, your own mind for the arrival of the Free Mind. And this royal nature will arrive. But learn to expect it in the unexpected.
To paraphrase the New Testament: be ever watchful for you don't know when or how something higher will make itself known to you.

There may come a flash of insight, a clear glimpse into some self- created cause of your own continuing inner captivity. Or perhaps a sudden and sweet deep sense of wholeness will sweep through you, a quiet but profound intuition, wherein you know yourself for that moment to be one with all of that life pulsating around and within you.

However that Light breaks into the darkened room of self, consider each brief illumination as an appointed messenger, a heavenly herald send in advance of a greater freedom to come. Learn to embrace each appearance for regardless of what may be revealed to you or about you- these insights are not unlike the sound of the shouts of liberation heard always just before the arrival of the liberating forces. A new freedom always follows! Now follow it!

Choosing the Right Dietary Supplement

Buying a dietary supplement is not as easy as it looks. There are hundreds of different brands, high priced and low priced supplements and even different qualities. Add the questions of what your body specifically needs and how much should you take and the maze of supplement buying becomes even harder. Here are some "Do's and Dont's" on selecting supplements.

Don't Choose Supplements:

- that are not a natural color. (Red, Blue or Purple supplements contain artificial dyes or colorings.)

- with synthetic vitamin C & E. These are produced in a laboratory and are not natural. There are differences in functions, breakdown and absorption. The best natural source of Vitamin E are mixed d-tocopherols (not dl-tocopherols) and natural sources for vitamin C are rose hips and calcium ascorbate.

- based on price. Some high end vitamins may be supporting advertising costs and are not necessarily using better ingredients.

- is low priced because you may be not be getting the potency you need, they may be using synthetics or using a high amount of fillers such as cellulose to keep the price low.

-assuming that by buying a name brand that you are getting quality. A lot of the known U.S. brands these days have been bought out by big conglomerates which have a larger overhead cost and they may or may not skimp on the quality of the supplement.

Do Remember To:

- try and find a basic multi-supplement that includes all the vitamins, minerals, bioflavinoids, enzymes, natural food concentrates, antioxidants, herbs, essential fatty acids, fiber and green foods in one formula. This will keep the amount of pills you are taking to a minimum and will also be better for your budget.

- buy a supplement from a reputable manufacturer and is made in a pharmaceutical grade, approved facility. These facilities adhere to higher quality control from the raw material stage to the finished product.

- buy a medium priced product for the best value.

- that manufacturers usually make supplement dosages for a person of 140 lbs. in weight. So adjust the amount of the supplement you are taking accordingly.

- buy a vitamin with all the B's in it because all the B's work synergistically together.

- That you may need to take additional Vitamin C, E and B complex when you are ill, so take this into consideration when you are selecting your daily multi supplement.

- look at a label's "other ingredients" which are listed in order of potency. So if you see fillers like cellulose, before actual supplement names, you are getting more fillers than supplement.

- avoid supplements with sugar, starch, corn, wheat, iron, dairy, salt, artificial flavorings, artificial sweeteners or artificial preservatives.

- note that it will usually take a 4-6 week period before you see the effect of any supplement.

The HealthyLife.net Recipe of the Month

Escarole Soup

Cooking Time: 20-30 minutes, 1-Soup Pot

6 cups chicken broth (see page )
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 cup grated Romano goat or sheep's milk cheese
1 egg
1 head of escarole
12 tablespoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

In a bowl combine ground beef, cheese and egg. Blend thoroughly and roll meat mixture into small 1" meatballs.
Rinse escarole and break leaves of escarole into bite sized pieces.
In a large soup pot place chicken broth and bring to a boil.
Add salt and pepper.
Add little meatballs and escarole pieces.
Bring to a fast boil then turn down heat, cover and simmer 20-30 minutes. Serve hot!

SOUP HINT: To remove excess fat from soup either chill the soup and then skim off the fat off the top or while soup is simmering put a lettuce leaf in the soup, let it simmer in the soup for 20 minutes, then remove the leaf and throw it away.
