FEATURE ARTICLE
Fulfill the Beautiful Purpose of All Relationships
by Guy Finley -
Radio Host of "Guy Finley Live! "
3rd Tuesday every month, 9am PT

Q & A with Guy Finley

All of our relationships, particularly with those we love, exist for a single beautiful purpose that expresses itself in two different ways. First, our partner - whether spouse, that "special" someone, or even a would-be companion - is in our life to help us grow; to provide just the conditions we need to become that better, truer person that they see in us, just waiting to be brought forth. But the other and equally important half of this same purpose and promise - without which the first part can't be realized - is as follows: our partner is also there in our life to help us see everything in us that now stands in the way of our realizing this same higher possibility.

Find helpful insights about how to fulfill the true purpose of relationships in the following Q&A.

Question: I don't get it! Honestly, how can a better understanding of myself keep me from having the negative reaction I do every time I see my husband do something stupid, especially this one behavior that literally drives me up a wall?
Answer: The next time you want to jump on your husband for his misstep, try this: instead of unconsciously remembering all the reasons you have for opposing him in that moment, do your level best to remember where and how you have missed the mark in a similar way. Consciously choosing to recollect your similarity (with your partner's character) not only disarms the part of you about to pounce upon it, but this level of self-honesty also dispels the illusion of difference imagined between the two of you, replacing it with a compassionate consideration born of wisdom and love.

Question: My husband does things that make me so angry. Are you saying it's wrong for me to step up and to speak my mind about how I feel?
Answer: Of course not: it may seem subtle, but there's a big difference between bringing up an issue, some concern you have with your partner, and striking back at them in pain over what you would blame them for. In other words, it's not so much what you say, but "who" - what part of you- starts talking for you in that moment. Here's one good way to ensure that you choose the right time for engaging your partner over any problem brewing between the two of you: wait, patiently - even if it takes twenty-four hours -until whatever part of you that feels compelled to blame, or that wants to complain, subsides. By following these instructions, you'll be aware of your negative state, instead of acting as its unconscious instrument.

Question: My wife has a real problem with anger; honestly, I think she likes to fight! Try as I may to stay detached, she always manages to drag me into an argument with her...and I mean we can argue over nothing! What can I do? How can I get her to see what she's doing to our relationship?
Answer: Blaming someone else's anger for our inability to remain above and untouched by its negative influence is like resenting a rain cloud for getting us wet when we walk outside and into its downpour. The only thing that can drag us into a fight with our partner, regardless of what he or she wants to fight with us over, is an in-the-dark part of us that's secretly been waiting for a good fight. If you really want to stop fighting, and free both of you at the same time, then set the following intention, here and now, as if your life depends on it: no matter what, refuse to climb into the ring the next time she wants to rumble. The more you're able to observe these parts of yourself that are so easily enticed to fight, the clearer it will become who you can no longer afford to be. And once you're able to stay out of the ring, then who is left there for your wife to fight with? No longer having any opponent, she will be able to see - and hopefully set down - the same parts of herself that you did. Peace will fall onto your house.

Spiritual Respect
by Linda Mackenzie, C.H.T., Ph.D.(c)

The dictionary defines the noun "respect" as the following:

The act of respecting or noticing with attention; the act of holding in high esteem; deference or honor;
a state of being held in honor or esteem; to show consideration for; regard; courteous expression of respect; regards;
a particular point or detail; partiality; undue bias to the prejudice of justice; consideration; motive in reference to something;
relation; regard; reference; as in respect for your problem.

These are all meanings of respect on a human level, but how does it apply spiritually? What is spiritual respect? Where does it come from? How and when should you use it?

What is Spiritual Respect?

Spiritual respect is not earned in the sense of what you know or what you achieve on your life path journey. It does not come from judgment, expectation, the need for control, the need to be right, negative emotions like jealousy or worry about what other people think, rationalization, attitudes or feelings on what you want or think "respect" should be. It is not used for personal gain, ego or power. Spiritual respect is a God-given right held by all living things that should be honored, esteemed and regarded by everyone at all times. It is not demanding. It does not encompass judgment from human mores and values. It is the awareness of seeing beyond human limitations and conditions to the positive life force in every living thing.

Where Does It Come From?

  • A deep abiding unshakable Faith
  • Trust
  • Development of an inner knowing
  • Balance of power and energy
  • Positive energy
  • Hope
  • Charity
  • Grounding, focus and centeredness
  • Experience

How to Use Spiritual Respect?

  • Separate human emotion/physical respect experiences from spiritual respect experience.
  • Use awareness to see beyond human limitations and conditions to the positive life force of every living thing.
  • Honor and esteem the uniqueness and energy in every living thing.
  • Act honorably and use gentle regard without judgment.
  • To realize the personal journey of all is a unique process perceived from their own perspective which is their growth path to higher consciousness.
  • Find the positiveness in each situation.
  • Walk through fear and judgment.
  • Think of the ramifications on all around you before you act.
  • Welcome change as an opportunity.
  • Take responsibility for your actions.
  • Use the Power of intention and positive thought.
  • Do not intrude on anyone's free will.
  • Balance receiving and giving.
  • Self-empower people in their path of self-discovery.
  • Use kindness.
  • Perceive how people or things will receive your actions, thoughts and feelings.
  • Understand that we are all one and make a positive impact on existence through every word, thought and deed.
  • Understand that everything has value.
  • Benefit mankind and the world.
  • Come from love in all things-

How to Develop Spiritual Respect.

  • Live in the Moment - not the past or future.
  • Let go of judgment.
  • Let go of rigid goals and expectation.
  • Let go of rationalization.
  • Let go of negative thoughts and phrases like can't, shouldn't, wouldn't, if...
  • Let go of negative emotions like hate, discrimination, anger, jealousy, hate, self-pity, guilt.
  • Develop responsibility for your actions.
  • Eliminate fear on all levels.
  • Let go of ego.
  • Realize there are no secrets.
  • Realize there are no mistakes.
  • Take care of your body, mind and spirit.
  • Reduce the 4 levels of stress in your life (physical, emotional, nutritional and environmental).
  • Practice relaxation.
  • Let go of materialism.
  • Let go of the need for power.
  • Be self-reliant.
  • Develop spiritual, ethical and moral values.
  • Practice love.

When to Use Spiritual Respect.
Every moment, in every aspect of your entire life.

December - Holiday Kindness, Sharing and Caring

It's the season of kindness, sharing and caring. While I'm an advocate for both on a daily basis and a fan of random acts of kindness, there's no better way to end one year and enter the next than to do something good for someone else. Where we as a society have gone so far astray is in believing that demonstrations of sharing and caring must come with a hefty price-tag.

A simple gift from the heart is more deeply appreciated and memorable. It is the hours spent reading to a child and the paper angels we craft for a homeless shelter and retirement home that make a real difference. A donation of volunteer time and spare blankets to a local animal rescue group and performing soothing songs for hospice patients puts sharing, caring and giving in its true order.

A special gift you can give your friends, family, and others is to let them know about HealthyLife.net. Our unique radio station is a wellspring for positive motivation and support, and provides inspiration and resources 24-hours-a-day. Whether someone is in Atlanta, Georgia or in Dublin, Ireland, HealthyLife.net is there.
