End Your Problems with Problem

We often have a negative response to people who act
thoughtlessly toward us. To our usual way of thinking, it just seems
natural. But what we don't realize is that it is the exact same
kind of thoughtlessness within us that produces our response.
In other words, our own hostile reactions take no thought for anything
outside of what they call into account for their suddenly heated
existence -- so that the only awareness we possess in these times
is that low level of cognizance that possesses us, making us feel
"entitled" to attack back! And with our own aching heart
or pounding thoughts providing the fuel, we lash out! After all,
it is our "right" to set the record straight.
But in these moments, if we could learn to step back
from ourselves -- to see and to be aware of ourselves as being but
a cog in an ever-turning wheel of hurting and being hurt -- there
would follow a great and liberating self-revelation. We would see,
clearly, that before we rise up and attempt to hurt someone who
has hurt us, it is we who hold this hurt first. And if we realize
the dynamic exposed here -- how one hurt always gives rise to another
one -- then we should also be able to see that each of us is always
the first to hold this unwanted pain.
If we see the truth of this unconscious cycle, then
we are ready for the next truth we will need to escape this circle
of suffering: It doesn't matter how, or where, this dark cycle got
started. It is not important any longer. Why? Because once we understand
that to try to hurt someone -- even just to want to -- is to hurt
ourselves, it makes no difference who did what to whom, or for whatever
reasons. Once we come aware of the fact that when we hate, we feel
this hatred first in ourselves, our relationship with this darkness
is done. The whole issue becomes as simple as this: It is our own
hatred, and not the person we blame for it, that hurts us,. To hold
a wish to punish someone begins with the unconscious embrace of
the very pain we wish to inflict.
These discoveries all tell one story: Nothing grows on a battlefield
except for the number of cries. Nothing can develop in us as long
as the truth about our condition remains buried beneath so much
misunderstanding. The point is that the pain we pass onto one another
must stop somewhere or this cycle of conflict will never cease.
And it must, or else the vital energies we need to grow beyond ourselves
will simply be poured back into the earth for purposes unknown to
us, even as we are compelled to serve conflict's dark plan through
our unconscious suffering. What is the alternative?
Most of us already suspect what needs to be done if
we are to have any hope of moving beyond the conflict so common
in today's relationships. Nevertheless, here is a brief description
of the spiritual action to be taken: We must stop giving to our
friends and family the pain we cannot bear to carry ourselves. Said
differently, each of us must agree to be the one who will "taste"
what we would serve to our "enemy du jour" before we throw
it upon his or her plate.
So, based on all this, here's the new way to deal
with those you've always seen as "problem people": From
this moment forward, let the conflict stop with you. Make it your
intention to forever quit yourself from the turning of this invisible
Each time we will consciously refuse to strike back in anger or
act out some aggression toward the one who hurts us, we sow the
seed of a new order of a conscious life. Now instead of being used
by dark forces that grow at the expense of our soul's development,
it is we who use our endless differences with others to grow endlessly.
And at the same time that we learn to rise above the pain of our
own negative reactions, we create the possibility and opportunity
for others around us to do the same.
Each time we will choose not to respond to someone's mental or emotional
blow with a blow of our own, that person is left no choice but to
see that the only antagonist he has is his own pain. And just as
this person's awakening to the continual cause of his unconscious
aching is the beginning of the end of it, so too is this true for
us. Our newly awakened understanding reveals that there is nothing
for us to do with the pain we see as being caused by another person,
but to let it be nothing to us. We do not pass it back to them.
And with each such spiritual step that we will dare to take outside
the circle of suffering, so do we make a way for everyone else...
because at last the circle has been broken.

We are under more stress than ever before.
Some stress good - it helps us grow and keeps us motivated.
In fact, every action or reaction that we have comes from stress.
Too much stress causes emotional breakdowns, illness and
even premature death. In fact, 60% of all physicians cases are
stress related. In the workplace, Stress is rated in the top 10
of health hazards and over $150 billion a year is lost for absenteeism,
low productivity, accidents and medical coverage due to stress.
The early warning signs of stress of when you are
having too much stress
a. Physical - Pain, illness, energy level changes, different body
b. Emotional - Anger, fear, hurt, sadness, uneasiness
c. Mental - Either an overactive or inactive mind
d. Behavioral - Overdoing/underdoing, avoiding, developing clutter,
being pushy or unpredictable, increased whining and swearing
e. Intuitive - dreams, queer inner feelings
Human Reaction to Stress
Our reaction to stress is the same today as it was for the caveman.
When in danger (e.g. animal attacking) the caveman reacts in "Flight
or Fight" mode. He would either run away or would fight the
animal. We have the same reaction today.
There are 4 types of stress -
a. Physical - e.g., illness, lack of sleep, viruses
b. Nutritional -e.g., food allergies, vitamins/minerals deficiencies
& improper digestion
c. Emotional - e.g., negative emotions like anger, frustration,
grief or guilt
d. Environmental - e.g., inside (e.g., prescription or recreational
drugs, alcohol) or outside pollutants(e.g., smog, insecticides)
1. Decide which stress or combo of stresses is affecting you.
Example: Imagine you have an upset stomach. Is it because of one
or more of these reasons.......
a. You got food poisoning (physical stress)
b. Your body doesn't have enough enzymes to digest food (nutritional/physical)
c. The side effect of your prescription drug causes upset stomach
d. Or your boss told you that your job is in jeopardy (emotional)
2. Once you determine which stress (es) are affecting
a. Acknowledge that you are under stress
b. Now Feel where the stress is accumulating in your body. Is
it your neck, your shoulders, your stomach, your lower back. Where
do you feel tense?
c. Now take a deep breath and consciously tense that spot even
more Hold it for a few seconds and as you breathe out, release
the tension from that spot.
3. Now here are some keys to reducing stress:
Physical Stress - Get enough sleep and exercise - 3X a
week 30 minutes a day
Optimal health helps the body, mind & spirit.
Nutritional Stress- Eat right, the right vitamins, minerals,
enzymes & supplements
Environmental - No caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, recreational
drugs and limit
Emotional Stress - Remember that in most cases you can't
control external circumstances but you can control your reaction
through Humor, Positive Thought, Positive Affirmations, Meditation,
Yoga, Tai Chi, Breathing, Creativity, Hypnosis and my favorite
form of Self-Hypnosis -Visualization.

Recipe of the Month
or Scallop Ceviche
Cooking Time: 6 hours
3 lb. cooked shrimp or Scallops
1 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup virgin olive oil
6 tablespoons red onion (minced)
2 tablespoons green pepper (minced)
1/4 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon coriander
1/4 teaspoon white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
Sea salt and pepper to taste
In a bowl combine shrimp and lime juice.
Cover and let marinate at room temperature for 4 hours, turning
Drain lime juice.
Fold in lightly the olive oil, red onion, green pepper, parsley,
cayenne pepper, oregano, vinegar, salt and pepper.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
