Who is Sally Kirkland?
Sally Kirkland, Best Actress Oscar Nominee, Golden Globe winner,
Independent Spirit Award winner, veteran of over 200 films and radio
host on HealthyLife.net Radio Network since April, 2003.
Feisty, hardworking, famously liberal, with the trademark blonde
hair, actress Sally Kirkland has certainly made an indelible mark
on Hollywood history. Born in New York City, her mother was the
fashion editor at Vogue and LIFE magazine. She was also actress
Shelly Winters Goddaughter.
Sally began her career on the off-Broadway circuit and trained
under 'Lee Strasberg'.
Sally Kirkland is a film, TV, and theater veteran since the 1960's
and is probably best known for the film "Anna," for which
she garnered a Best Actress Oscar nomination and won the Best Actress
Golden Globe, the Independent Spirit Award, and the LA Film Critic's
She was the first actress to appear nude in a legitimate stage
play, in the 1968 Off-Broadway premiere of "Sweet Eros"
Sally's first director in 1964 was Andy Warhol in "13 Most
Beautiful Women." Her 200 films include: "The Sting,"
"The Way We Were," "Coming Apart," "Cold
Feet," "Best of the Best," "Revenge," "JFK,"
"ED TV," "Bruce Almighty", and recently "Coffee
Date", "Archaeology of a Woman", "Buddy Solitaire",
"Gnaw" and "The Most Hated Woman in America"
co-starring with Melissa Leo and Peter Fonda on Netflix.
She was nominated for Best Actress in a TV movie by the Hollywood
Foreign Press for "The Haunted- A True Story." Her television
credits include: guest starring on "Criminal Minds," recurring
on "Head Case" and "the Simple Life." She guest
starred on "Resurrection Blvd," and in the TV movie, "Another
Woman's Husband." Sally had a recurring role on "Felicity"
and "Wasteland." She starred on the NBC movie, "Brave
New World." She starred in the TV movie, "Song of Songs"and
was a series regular on the TV show "Valley of the Dolls."
She also starred in the TV movie, "The Woman Who Loved Elvis."
She played Barbara Healy on "Roseanne." She starred in
the TV movie, "Heatwave" and recurred as Tracy on "Days
of Our Lives."
Sally is also an exhibited painter, poet and ordained minister.
She is currently still acting and teaches Acting in West Hollywood,
California as she writes her memoirs.

Put Yourself Where Freedom

An inner place of safety exists. If we stand in that
new position, no dark feelings can affect us. That position has
always been there, waiting for us to find it. It is the place where
the True Self resides. But we have mistakenly believed that only
two options were open to us: to either stand and suffer, or run
away and suffer, with our problems in constant pursuit. We always
listened to the inner flock of sheep that bleated fearfully, "submit
to the suffering," "find some way to deal with it,"
"hate whatever put you in pain."
As long as we continue to respond to the suffering
in this way, believing in its inevitability, it is in control. However,
a way out does exist. It is to stop thinking along those familiar
lines so that a right spirit can come in and guide us to a new internal
position. We begin by realizing, little by little, that our current
position is intolerable. When we get tired of putting up with those
intolerable conditions, we begin to look around for another answer.
Then we can be led to a new position where we are safe from the
stinging flies and stalking cougars of our own negative thoughts.
When we stand between the soaring cliffs of self-knowledge and the
desire to live above the pettiness of this world, the dark thoughts
lose their power to touch us.
A critical step in bringing about this transfer to a new position
is to develop a clear purpose for ourselves, for our position in
life is very much intertwined with what we believe to be our purpose
in life. When, like the foolish sheep, our only purpose is to eat,
mingle, mate, or rule the herd, we position ourselves accordingly,
and end up right in the middle of the battlefield. That foolish
purpose invites the attacks that cause our suffering, and allows
them to continue. When our new purpose is to live the higher life
we were meant to enjoy, our attention rises above the frightened
flock to the cliffs and the sky above. Our search in this new place
is rewarded. A new, safe position is revealed to us. Here we can
find a life free from suffering, as well as experience a new energy
and purpose in our lives.

Recipe of the Month
4-Layer Party Cake (Gluten, Refined Sugar and Milk
Oven Temperature: 350° F
Baking Time: 20-25 min., 4 - 8" cake pans
Preparation: Grease sides of baking pans and place parchment or
waxed paper on the bottom of each pan.
3/12 cups gluten free flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of xantham gum
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup butter (room temperature)
1 cup maple syrup (separated 3/4 c. & 1/4 c.)
4 eggs, separated (room temperature)
1 cup rice milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
Sift together flour blend, xantham gum, baking powder and salt.
In another bowl, cream butter with 3/4 cup of maple syrup using
electric mixer on low-medium speed until well blended. Add beaten
eggs yolks and vanilla beating at medium speed after each one is
added. Using an electric mixer at medium speed alternately add flour
mix and rice milk to creamed butter-maple syrup mixture, beginning
and ending with flour mixture beating well after each addition.Beat
egg whites until stiff. Add 1/4 cup of maple syrup slowly to egg
whites and beat until blended thoroughly. Lightly fold egg whites
into cake batter blending thoroughly but gently.
Pour batter into 4 greased and paper lined pans. Bake at 350°
bake for 25-30 min. or until inserted wooden toothpick comes out
clean from center of cake. Cool cakes in pans for 5-10 min. Then
place cakes on wire rack and cool completely. When cake is completely
cooled, put together with your choice of Filling and frost top and
sides of cake with your Favorite frosting.
Lemon Filling (double this recipe
for 4 layer cake)
5 tablespoons gluten free flour
2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
2/3 cup water
1 eggs, slightly beaten (room temperature)
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
1 tablespoon butter (room temperature)
In top of double boiler combine flour (or cornstarch), maple syrup,
salt and water. Cook over boiling water stirring constantly until
thick. Then cover and cook for an additional 10 minutes. Stir a
little of the hot mixture into the slightly beaten egg. Add and
stir this beaten egg-hot mixture into the hot mixture and cook over
simmering water for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Cool slightly. Add butter, lemon peel, lemon juice and lemon extract.
Chill in refrigerator until completely cold before spreading between

recipe for 4 layer cake)
3/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon light organic corn syrup
1 egg white
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Place maple syrup, cream of tartar, salt, water and corn syrup
in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. In a bowl place
the egg white.Slowly add the hot mixture to egg white beating constantly
with electric mixer on high speed. Continue beating on high speed
until frosting is stiff and spreadable. Quickly frost completely
cooled cake. Best if you keep cake refrigerated.
