Self-Correction
Is Self-Elevation
By Guy Finley
Radio Host:"Guy
Finley Live "
2nd Tue every month, 9am PT
|
|
We are a peculiar race of beings.
On one hand, each of us professes to be concerned with growing and
self-developing while, on the other hand, none of us ever wants
to be wrong. This is a paralyzing contradiction. If we are always
right, or at least afraid of being wrong, what have we to learn?
Couched in our hidden attitude is the belief that we already know
everything. This is a serious problem if we are at all serious in
our quest for self-liberation, since this Higher Freedom comes to
us in direct proportion to what we are willing to learn about ourselves.
Learning is a correction process. Real correction,
at any level, always purifies the matter and so leaves it less confused
and thus in a higher state. Taking this beautiful idea one step
further reveals to us the promise that self-elevation always follows
self-correction. You may not as yet fully understand the implication
of this powerful Inner Law, but it holds within it the promise of
endless heights.
The whole idea of modifying ourselves, of slowly improving
through time, is born out of our reluctance to be wrong. Perhaps
this is why so few of us ever really learn to stop hurting ourselves.
Let's take a moment and look at the difference between self-improvement
and self-correction. With self-improvement we teach ourselves lessons
of our choice based on what we think we need to learn in order to
grow. Self-improvement teaches and confirms the process of self-addition,
in which we acquire new knowledge, behaviors and beliefs.
With self-correction we learn for ourselves that we
have been teaching ourselves incorrectly. Seeing this allows us
to let go of our incorrect thinking. As we experience the benefits
of letting go of ourselves, vigorous new inner growth then takes
place as naturally as it does for a young plant that has been moved
from a shadowy place out into the sunlight. A new tree cannot grow
in the shadow of an old one. Learning can only take place outside
the shadow of pride. Anything that resists correction is a part
of what is wrong.
While we are on the subject of resistance, we should
recognize that pride is the middle name of the false self. It is
this false nature of ours that always leaps to defend itself when
confronted with any kind of meaningful correction. Remember, this
lower nature is happy with its current disorderly existence. You
lose when it wins and it wins by getting you to deny or protect
your mistake. Denying any problem makes you its guardian and leaves
you chained to being wrong.
Let's go over these important principles once more.
Being wrong is not the problem. Defending the life-level that produced
the wrongness is where we make the mistake. Once we start denying
or defending the problem, we have turned it from what should have
been only a temporary condition into a permanent state. You are
not tied to any past mistake unless you lash yourself to it. This
is exactly what the false self wants you to do. It does this by
convincing you that you are wrong. Once it has accomplished this,
it can continue selling you anchors that look like life vests. This
is why we must never hide anything from ourselves. Remember, once
the problem is out of sight, so is the only possible solution.

From
the Editor's Desk
On April 22nd, in
honor of Earth Day, there will be an array of great events held
globally in celebration. This year marks the 40th anniversary of
Earth Day, in fact, and it is said that more than one billion people
in 190 countries are taking action. Going green is easier than ever.
It's not only the right thing to do, it can be such a fun thing
to do, too. HealthyLife.Net is here to help you learn how to keep
the planet clean and green, in a positive way, naturally.
Start first by tuning in every Thursday
morning at 7am PT and listen to Mike Austin give you the latest
breaking news on "Green" during the HealthyLife.net News@7
radio show. If you miss it you can catch it at 7pm PT the same day
and all day for 24 hours on the News@7 archive. Plus don't miss
"Blue Planet Almanac" with host Mike Austin, which airs
the fourth Monday of each month at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Mike's
program offers thoughtful perspectives on conscious, green living
on Earth. "Blue Planet Almanac" features fascinating interviews,
breaking news, and product reviews.
Dr. Gloria Gilbère, host of
"Dr. Gloria: Health Detective," airing the first Monday
of the month, 9-10 a.m. Pacific Time, will help you identify and
overcome the toxic chemicals that are all around us on Earth. Then
join Elysa Markowitz the 3rd Monday every month at 9am, to discover
how to buy foods locally and the benefits of natural eating.
Jurriaan Kamp, host of The Ode Show,
airing on HealthyLife.Net the 4th Monday of every month, 9-10 a.m.,
is also founder/editor-in-chief of cutting-edge Ode magazine. Jurriaan's
innovative radio program, print publication, and online community
all focus on positive news-about inspiring people and ideas that
are changing our world for the better. "The Joy of Dirt with
John Jeavons," Jurriaan's interview with John Jeavons, author
and Executive Director of Ecology Action, is available on HealthyLife.Net's
Archives on our station's Web site.
And one last note. Listen in live
or load up your favorite HealthyLife.Net shows onto your trusted
iPod or use your Smartphone or Ipod to listen live to HealthyLife.net
and get out there to lend a helpful hand to Mother Earth. Over the
weekend of April 17-18, the Global Days of Service will feature
volunteer actions by tens of thousands of global participants. These
projects in parks, beaches, schools and forests focus on climate
change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits,
water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced
with the help of Earth Day Network, along with local community organizations
and governments, the activities will address current challenges
and will help cities and organizations streamline their energy needs,
and 'green up' their communities. Suitable for individuals of all
ages, including children and families, these activities encourage
active lifestyles and healthful living, while also connecting volunteers
with the green solutions.
Make Earth Day every day.

HOST OF
THE MONTH:
Jurriaan Kamp
Host of: The Ode Show
4th Wed Every Month, 9am PT
|
|
| Each
month we focus on one of our great hosts and this month we are talking
to Jurriaan
Kamp who is the Editor-in-Chief and co-Founder of Ode Magazine, a
former foreign correspondent and radio & TV journalist. |
|
HL- What is Ode Magazine's mission?
Ode is a magazine and Web site about the people, passion, and possibilities
changing our world for the better. Ode embraces the passion of new
ideas that inspire innovative solutions to some of our greatest
challenges.
HL- What inspired you to go into socially- and ecologically-conscious
publishing? Most media always focus on whatever goes wrong.
I'm more interested in what goes right and in what we can do to
make the world a healthier, happier, greener, more just and sustainable,
yes, better, place.
HL- What are some of today's most important issues that you're covering?
Sustainability in the widest possible sense and that includes the
social fabric of our world. Sometimes it seems that we are more
concerned about the future of polar bears whereas everyday thousands
of children die unnecessarily from malaria and hunger.
HL- Who do you most admire as positive change makers? The people
who begin things because they want to make a positive contribution,
not because the market asks for it, but because the world needs
it.
HL- What's on your list of must-reads and must-listens right
now? Kirk Boyd's: 2048: Humanity's Agreement to Live Together
and Gunter Pauli's: The Blue Economy: 10 Years, 100 Innovations,
100 Million Jobs
HL- How can someone who is perhaps feeling less than positive
about the world-at-large become more optimistic and hopeful?
Focus on what works in your life and make that better. And always
think about someone who is in a worse position and about what you
can do to make her/his life better.

Health Tip:
Natural Menopause Methods
Women who choose not to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may
choose natural methods to help alleviate menopausal symptoms. These
mind/body methods treat the whole person to make menopause a more
positive experience.
1. Aromatherapy works by using the sense of smell to generate
symptomatic relief of emotional and physical problems. Oils used
as a bath, perfume, massage or inhalant have shown positive results.
For example try these oils for these associated symptoms:
hot flash - rose or peppermint oil; fatigue -rosemary;
low libido -cardamom;
vaginal dryness -neroli or geranium;
urinary incontinence -eucalyptus;
emotional stress -lavender or jasmine;
overall relief -lemon balm, rose or cypress.
2. Deep Breathing and focusing on the breath activates the
major quieting nerve of the body -the vagus nerve. This helps to
immediately lower blood pressure, heart, pulse, and respiratory
rates to aid in reducing anxiety and overall stress.
3. Diet is one of the most important keys to help menopause.
In parts of India, China and Africa they do not experience hot flashes.
Lesser menopause symptoms are experienced in countries whose cultures
eat a mostly vegetarian, high fiber, low fat diet. It also includes
leafy green vegetables and fatty acids, such as flaxseed or evening
primrose oil, (which have estrogen properties). They also avoid,
eliminate or reduce caffeine, refined sugar, refined flour and grains,
salt, alcohol, nicotine, dairy products, spicy foods, artificial
colorings, flavorings and preservatives.
4. Education about the menopausal process is the first defense
against menopausal symptoms. In the past, menopause was shrouded
in mystery and often viewed as a negative experience and a precursor
to death. In previous generations our life span was shorter and
communication about menopause was considered an unmentionable subject.
Menopause is a natural part of life. Eliminate its mystery and misconceptions
and women are better prepared to handle the outcome.
5. Exercise helps to minimize and eliminate menopausal symptoms,
as well as, osteoporosis. Try yoga, aerobics or walking for thirty
(30) minutes, three times a week.
6. Herbs are part of nature's pharmacy. Herbs have many different
properties and certain herbs have phytoestrogen (plant estrogens)
qualities. For example try these herbs for these associated symptoms:
hot flash and night sweats -red clover, chaste berry (vitex) or
black cohash;
low libido -panax ginseng or damiana;
vaginal dryness and tissue weakness -yellow dock, motherwort, or
raspberry leaf and calendula cream;
urinary incontinence- garlic, cranberry and saw palmetto; hormonal
balance -black cohash, anise, licorice root, wild yam cream;
emotional stress -St. John's wort, kava, dong quai, blessed thistle.
7. Homeopathy was discovered in the 1700ís and is
based on unblocking the body's own healing system. Homeopathy is
a non-toxic therapy with no known side effects. It is safe to use
in conjunction of traditional, medical, psychological and physical
therapies.
