Who is Lindsay Ghannam...

Lindsay is a Holistic Practitioner who helps women reconcile their body, mind and spirit. She has witnessed a lot of pain and sorrow over the years as she worked with women and children suffering from domestic abuse, as well as, cases in the substance abuse field and corrections. She has seen men and women at the lowest point in their lives bounce back and start over. She feels that guiding them and being part of their stories is an honor. Seeing them regain their vitality brings her an immense joy.

She works with her clients by improving their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. She uses nutrition, herbalism, mindfulness and meditation to help her clients with their conditions, mainly anxiety and depression. With an intuitive approach, she identifies the physical signals and emotional blocks her client is experiencing to find out what the causes are and what they need to do. She then formulates a holistic wellness program and assist them step by step as they execute it.

She has 4 areas of coaching focus: Nutrition and diet, Spiritual, Lifestyle and Family with a special focus on anxiety.

Whoever would set blame upon another for feeling misunderstood, or who becomes bitter towards those thought to have let him down, has failed to realize the following self-liberating truth: the first root of sorrow in this life is not for what others have or have not done to us. Our suffering over the "shortcomings" of others is nothing less than the stuff of what we have yet to understand about ourselves.

Find helpful insights for developing this healing understanding in the following Q&A.

Question: My partner and I have always had a pretty strong relationship. But, of late, and there's no explanation for it - at least not one that I can see - it takes less and less things that she does, or doesn't do to bother me...more and more! I'm mature enough to know that I must have some hand in this growing sense of disappointment, but I just don't know where it is that I'm complicit. Can you help?

Answer: The following may take a little extra thought on your part, but I promise you that if you will consider the truth that it reveals - to you, about you - it will help release you from this growing resentment that you feel toward your partner. The only thing that troubles us about our partner…is what we want from them. In this one insight is also hidden the secret of how we can begin to drop the blame game, and to start taking full responsibility for ourselves.

Question: My boyfriend is so quick to go on the defensive that, I swear, all I have to do is even hint that there's something that I want to talk to him about and he lashes out at me...before I've even said a word. And sometimes he'll go on the attack in the middle of a simple conversation, when I haven't touched on anything like the topic he then accuses me of bringing up. I'm at a loss for how to understand this condition, let alone how to deal with it properly.

Answer: The following insight should help you see the real reason for his seemingly inexplicable behavior toward you. Being able to understand the unconscious forces behind this aggressive behavior is the same as developing the patience and compassion you'll need to stop resisting it, and that's the first step in breaking its pattern.
Most people "pounce" on others without provocation not because they want to cause pain, but because they're afraid of being hurt. Your boyfriend isn't actually trying to attack you, but rather he's temporarily under the negative influence of a fearful part of himself that feels it must defend itself from some forthcoming imagined pain. In the eyes of this unconscious level of self, the best way to protect itself is to be the first to attack. The more you learn to see his troubled action toward you for being the misplaced fear that it is, the easier it becomes not to resist it by returning some unkindness for the same. The less you resist, the greater his chance to see that you're not the enemy he's imagined you to be.

Recipe of the Month

Abstract Applesauce Cake

Oven Temperature: 350° F
Baking Time: 45-50 min., 8" square pan
or 30-35 min., 2- 9" cake pans
Preparation: Grease baking pans.

2 cups flour blend (page )
1 1/2 teaspoons of xantham gum
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
3/4 cup maple syrup
2 eggs, well beaten (room temperature)
1 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla
Optional: Add 3/4 cups dates or
1 cup raisins or 1 cup chopped nuts.

Sift together flour blend, xantham gum, baking soda, salt and spices. Cream butter with maple syrup using electric mixer on low-medium speed until well blended. Add eggs. Using an electric mixer at medium speed alternately add flour mix and applesauce to creamed butter-maple syrup mixture, blend until smooth after each addition. Add vanilla and optional, dates, raisins or chopped nuts.
Pour batter into greased pans and bake at 350° F. Bake 30-35 min. for 2- 8"-or 9" cake pans; 45-50 min. for 8" or 9" square pans or until inserted wooden toothpick comes out clean from center of cake. Cool in cake pans 5-10 min. Then remove and completely cool on wire rack before filling and frosting with your favorite frosting or eat it plain!

February - Share the Love

It's February and love is definitely in the air. Thoughts of Valentine's Day certainly make romantic love come to the forefront. However, love comes in many forms so in the end is there a difference? According to the dictionary, 'Love' as a noun is an intense feeling of deep affection or a person or thing that one loves. 'Love' as a verb means to feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment.

So have we been programmed towards believing that the verb is stronger than the noun. I mean actions are stronger than words right? So that deep romantic sexual attraction can be pure ecstasy, but is it the epitome of love? Is romantic, sexual love the only form of love that counts? Actually, and I hope you are not surprised by this, NO romantic and sexual love is not the be all, end all of Love.

All Love can be as potent, or even more potent, as romantic love...the love of God (and whatever you want to call God is okay with me) or parents, children, friends, pets or even a plant can be just as fulfilling...and sometimes less roller coaster know what I'm talking about. Remember love is limitless so don't be stingy with it - Love as much as you can because the only thing you take with you when you pass over to the other side, is not your favorite designer shoes or status bearing car, but the love you give and receive in your lifetime.
