Robert Moss

Who is Robert Moss...

Robert Moss describes himself as a dream teacher, on a path for which there has been no career track in our culture. He is the creator of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of dreamwork and shamanism. Born in Australia, he survived three near-death experiences in childhood. He leads popular seminars and 3-year trainings all over the world for teachers of Active Dreaming. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he is a best-selling novelist, journalist and independent scholar.

He identifies the great watershed in his adult life as a sequence of visionary events that unfolded in 1987-1988, after he decided to leave the world of big cities and the fast-track life of a popular novelist and put down roots on a farm in the upper Hudson Valley of New York. Moss started dreaming in a language he did not know that proved to be an archaic form of the Mohawk language. Helped by native speakers to interpret his dreams, Moss came to believe that they had put him in touch with an ancient healer, an arendiwanen or "woman of power" and that they were calling him to a different life. Out of these experiences he wrote a series of historical novels (The Firekeeper, Fire Along the Sky, The Interpreter) and developed the practice he calls Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of contemporary dreamwork and shamanic methods of journeying and healing. A central premise of Moss's approach is that dreaming isn't just what happens during sleep; dreaming is waking up to sources of guidance, healing and creativity beyond the reach of the everyday mind. He introduced his method to an international audience as an invited presenter at the conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams at the University of Leiden in 1994.

Over the past 20 years, he has led seminars at the Esalen Institute, Kripalu, the Omega Institute, the New York Open Center, Bastyr University, John F. Kennedy University, Meriter Hospital, and many other centers and institutions. He has taught depth workshops in Active Dreaming in the UK, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Brazil and Austria. Since May 2006 he hosts the ""Way of the Dreamer"" radio show on

He has appeared on many TV and radio shows, ranging from Charlie Rose and the Today show to Coast to Coast and the Diane Rehm show on NPR. His articles on dreaming have been published in media ranging from Parade to Shaman's Drum. Moss was a keynote speaker at the IASD world conference in Chicago in 2009; was keynote presenter at the East Coast conference of the Institute of Transpersonal Studies and the keynote speaker at the A.R.E.'s Easter conference in 2010. His books have been published in more than 20 foreign languages. His books on dreaming, shamanism and imagination include: Conscious Dreaming, Dreamways of the Iroquois, The Dreamer's Book of the Dead, The Three ""Only"" Things,The Secret History of Dreaming, Dreamgates, Active Dreaming and Dreaming the Soul Back Home: Shamanic Dreaming for Healing and Becoming Whole.

Learn to Let Life Shape You

by Guy Finley -
Radio Host of "Guy Finley Live! "
3rd Tuesday every month, 9am PT

Meditation is the first effort on our part to understand that each and every moment of life can be truly new. But in our experience of life, each and every moment isn't truly new. In fact, we rarely have new moments at all because we're constantly in a kind of daydream, in some form of mental activity. What are we doing with this mental activity? Shaping the moment by hand-stamping it.

How do we meet each passing moment?

Life brings what it does, or a thought passes through our mind, and we're troubled. Why? Because it doesn't "look" -- or feel to us the way we think it should. And so we meet these disturbed thoughts and feelings by struggling to make life conform to our preconceived image of it. In this way, an old desire dictates our present perception, and then that nature tries to manipulate everything around us in order to make it look like what we think it's supposed to look like. In other words, we want nothing that doesn't match what we think life is supposed to be giving to us.

Real Life is always giving us something new to see

It doesn't occur to us that something much greater than ourselves is giving us what it's giving us, so that in our awakened reception of that moment of reality, something new can be made within us. Learn what it means to let life shape you -- let God shape your life, your soul -- until you're in direct relationship with life, not with this hand-stamped shaping of everything, trying to make it fit what you think. "You're supposed to be like this." "This is supposed to be like that." "My meditation isn't supposed to be like this, it's supposed to be like that."

Release all ideas of how life is supposed to be

All of that just leaves us sitting and fighting with what meditation is, which is the release of all of the ideas we have about how things are supposed to be. Be willing to be still, to be watchful, and to notice how everything that comes up -- every thought, every feeling -- at the moment it appears, wants to bring something in to judge it, to think about it, to try to shape it so that it fits your ideal of what the moment should be like.

Learn what it means to participate with life as it moves through you, stirs you, reveals you to you, and then -- if you'll just stay out of the mix -- change you. That is meditation.

February - The Month of Love

What do you think is needed to stop the violence, idiocy and negative bad things that are happening all arond us?" Love. Love is the strongest weapon of all. It can change you, show that you care, bring harmony and is the answer to any negative situation. Remember the only thing strong enough to go with you when you pass over is the love you give and the love you receive. Love also makes up the Light. Plus there is an unlimited supply of love - you can't run out - so give it freely and often. When in a negative situation shine that love light straight into the heart of your oppressor and watch the magic happen. And if you just can't seem to love that oppressor yourself ask God to help strengthen your light from your heart to theirs and then blast away that love light. Love is a cornerstone principle in our foundation. It is reflected in our station programming. Thus, it is through our own loving thoughts and actions that we create and become the change we want to see in the world. That is what makes a true difference. This is how we set an example of love.

Looking to attract more love into your life, find the ideal mate or spice things up in your relationship? This spiritual event starts at 8am on this year and inspires thousands to participate around the world to help raise consciousness and bring about personal and planetary healing. Everyone listening gathers together to sound "AH," and sends a sonic valentine of love to Mother Earth for global harmonization, planetary peace, and healing. Visit:
