FEATURE ARTICLE
Take This New Attitude Toward
Whatever Makes You Ache
By Guy Finley
Radio Host:"Guy Finley Live "
2nd Tue every month, 9am PT

The power of a lie is no greater than the darkness in which it is received. This means that all we need to do to see through the lies -- to render the darkness powerless -- is to bring that lie into the Light. This will defeat the lie's evil intention, for a lie's only intention is to cover up the truth. And a lie is left to do that very thing -- to fulfill its dark purpose -- every time we leave it unchallenged.

We must learn to say "So What!" to anything that tells us we can't possibly get past any place in our life. This means that the Light has called us to it for its purposes, and we have chosen to fight on its side.

Gradually, we learn that the darkness has no power unless it stops us and engages us in one of its lies. When we shed light on its lies, we begin to place ourselves in the hands of a beautiful principle in which the action that we take deepens our faith. The faith in turn strengthens our action, and we begin to climb. At this point, we are given the wherewithal to deal with any situation that comes our way.

The authentic "So what!" attitude is not cynical or disdainful (as we so often hear it expressed). The "So what!" we're talking about involves seeing the truth of things that happen inside of us. When something in us raises its head and starts carrying on, trying to get our attention, we can remember that it doesn't matter what anything dark inside of us says. We can remember that the only voice that matters is God's voice.

Learn, as best you can, wherever you may be in your spiritual life, to start paying attention to the voices inside of you. Awaken the awareness in you that is able to detect dark creatures telling lies. Then, consciously walk past the lies. "So what! I'm still going. I will not stop, and you will not drag me into your world. I am going to enter into the Kingdom of Light and your lies cannot stop me."

Whether immature, or naive, or whether there's no understanding at all… it makes no difference. This journey is made or lost with what is in the heart. Learn to let your heart answer those things in the darkness that want to hurt you. Do that and you will gradually find yourself making your way through the darkness and into the Kingdom of Light

From the Editor's Desk

Outdoors is where you'll most likely find me this time of year. During our sunny summer days here in Southern California, I enjoy working in the dirt, planting new seeds, hanging up unique wind chimes I make by hand, or perhaps finding the perfect tree limb for a hummingbird feeder to keep my tiny feathered friends healthy and happy. I like to tote along my portable internet radio player when I'm in my garden so that I can listen to HealthyLife.net wherever I am.
HealthyLife.net radio station is a favorite garden-type spot of mine, one that works really well for people all around the world, and whether you're indoors or outdoors. You might actually think of us as a large, portable garden format, where someone can listen to our leading edge, positive talk programming in a variety of convenient places and spaces. We want you to bloom where you are planted. This includes being able to tune in around the globe on the Internet, on iPods or Smart Phones, over WiFi, Microsoft® Windows Media Player® Radio Tuner, private radio channels, and even via the dashboard of your Mini Cooper.
It's most interesting to see what's being offered each week, to pick and choose the ideal programs for bettering your life and planet. Take a chance on a show topic or host unknown to you and see what comes up. You'll branch out with segments such as "Jojoba Joy" with herbal medicine expert Susun Weed and her popular "Green Blessings" show. Then there's all things intimacy and more with Dr. Jane Greer, "Doctor on Call." Who better than Jay Cruz, HealthyLife.net program director and host of "Pursuit of Happiness," to help you discover how to bring and maintain happiness in your life. Powerhouse relationship show, "Heart Talk Radio with Maryanne Comaroto, Kris Carlson, and Eve Hogan," connects listeners with best-selling authors and TV/radio personalities who are fun, informative, and devoted to helping you.
Tara Marie Segundo, new HealthyLife.net fitness host of "Tara Marie Live!" (Thursdays, 11 a.m. PT), offers this advice for re-landscaping your body, mind, and spirit: "Success comes to those who know that their personal transformation is not just about going to the gym a few times a week or following some special diet. This is about the way you live your life: the priorities that you set and how much you are willing to change."
I like to think of our HealthyLife.net show hosts, as truly charming gardeners who make all of our souls blossom.

See you next month.

HOST OF THE MONTH:
Bobby Likis

of  "Bobby Likis Car Clinic"
Saturdays, 7am PT

Each month we focus on one of our great hosts and this month we are talking to Bobby Likis who has worn every hat in the automotive industry and has been in Car Talk TV and radio Entertainment since 1986.

HL- " Since your very first words were 'Hot car, momma' can you tell us more about your passion? Cars have always made my heart beat fast. From curious toddler to inquisitive school boy to take-it-apart-and-reassemble-it teenager, any time I saw any automobile, I had to know what it was, what was under the hood and what made it tick. That passion destined my profession. I was lucky that not much in the way of mechanical items came hard for me, except for a few watches I took apart when I was young and, to my surprise when I put them back together again, found a few leftover pieces. :)
HL- what advice can you offer about fueling & following your heart? I paired my profession with my passions for cars and people. I started my own service shop with a $4K loan from a friend (that's another story altogether) some 39 years ago and never looked back. Similarly, I commissioned Acoustic Systems to build Car Clinic's digital studio before I dreamed of how many people would tune in. On both the service and the network sides of the house, I really didn't know what I was getting into, but I did know I was doing something I really enjoyed and I looked forward to getting up in the morning. Advice for others? Before choosing your long-term goals, get your education. Education expands options; time narrows them. Make sure you unwrap as many interest-boxes as possible and create multiple options for yourself.
HL-" What does being President/CEO of Car Clinic Service and Car Clinic Productions offer the public? Truth…Knowledge… Empowerment…Power. One rather folds into the next…isn't that a BGO (Blinding Glimpse of the Obvious). We help people get from where they are…to where they want to be…in their cars, with less stress, less cost, less time spent, and last but not least, more style. Our focus is on earning our customers' business-and trust-every day, one vehicle at a time. I'm proud to say we walk the walk. Then, lucky me, I get to talk the walk. I empower Car Clinic Network listeners with information about the one thing that most depend on every day, not just for transportation, but more importantly, for their lifestyle, their cars. I share my lifetime experiences with our listeners, helping them to better communicate with their local service shops and to make optimum automotive buying decisions.
HL- " What's been one of your most memorable career experiences? That's a tough question. We set six records with a small race car that should have never even placed. We built a service shop that was chosen "Best of the Bay" along the Gulf Coast-including new car dealerships, independent shops, and chain operations-and operate a successful business in an area that most fail. We're the only non-PBS car-talk show named to "Talkers 250" (top 250 talk shows in America) for two consecutive years. But most of all, as the song goes, we've done it our way. We live by putting integrity before profit, telling the truth, questioning things too good to be true, ousting "old think," and embracing innovation..
HL- " Do you have a favorite type of vehicle? Oh, don't make me chose a favorite among "my children!" OK, one of my favs is my Viper, a handmade American car that's quite a looker and deadly fast. Though not yet in my garage, I am enamored with the Bentley Arnage because it's hand-crafted with the finest woods and leathers. I enjoy driving my Chrysler van because it's so practical, and my "irresistible" Smart car is a 4-wheeled conversation piece.
HL-" Can you tell us a few about choosing a new or used vehicle?
Here's a list. Residual value. MPG. Insurance costs. Consumer acceptability. Interior fit and finish. Performance and reliability. Love.
HL- " What do you think about hybrid cars?
Hybrids are America's next-step towards our reduction in dependence on foreign oil…or really, oil of any kind. They are a means to the end of stemming the $600K/minute we send out of our country ($1B/day) to buy oil from foreign countries and reducing the risk of another BP-in-the-Gulf scenario.
HL- " What's the one question I didn't ask that you wish we had? My answer would be this: "Why did you choose to partner with HealthyLife.net Radio Networks?" We are most proud of our association with HealthyLife.net Radio. HealthyLife.Net shares Car Clinic's core philosophy that naysaying is easy, but it takes a class act to sort through the negatives and hone a positive outcome. We both love what we do, find better ways to do it and energize our listeners. It's our work-and our passion!

SPARKLING LAVENDER LEMON DROP
Kate McAloon

2 cups fresh lemon juice (you can also use other kinds of citrus instead of the lemons*)
1 cup agave nectar sweetener (or more to taste)
1/2 tsp Keys Creek culinary lavender
Sparkling water (chilled)
Garnish: Sugar, lemon slices, and fresh mint or lavender (optional; recommended)
Ice for serving (Non-alcohol; makes about 6 glasses)

Mix the lemon juice, agave nectar sweetener, and lavender together in a pitcher. Chill for about 20 minutes. Strain out the lavender. At this point, you can store the mixture for up to 3 days or serve immediately.

To serve, pour about 1/2 cup of the lemon mixture into sugar-rimmed glasses filled with ice, then fill the glass with your favorite sparkling water-I use about a cup of sparkling water per glass, depending on the size of the glasses. Lightly stir and garnish with a lemon slice. I also like to put a few lemon slices in the glasses, too, and a fresh piece of mint or lavender, if I have any on- hand. Taste to see if you want to add a little more sparkling water or lemon mixture.

*Note: If using oranges, you may need to use less of the sweetener, depending upon how sweet they are. This recipe also works great with grapefruit.

Chef Kate McAloon, celebrity chef, was born with a mixing spoon in her mouth and a natural talent for creating food with amazing flavors. When asked what her specialty is she loves to say "flavor!" She lives in the Los Angeles area, where she cooks for many celebrity clients.

HealthyLife Health Tip: Road Vision

When driving, eyestrain, eye fatigue and nightblindness can produce confusion, hesitation and decreased alertness when driving. This can contribute to traffic accidents, road rage in other drivers, and sometimes death. Some possible causes of eye strain, eye fatigue and nightblindness can be contributed to:
- aging
- using eyes intently for hours in an enclosed space
- poor diet and improper nutrients
- fatigue
- incorrect vision correction (e.g., wearing improper lenses).

Some of the symptoms of eyestrain, eye fatigue and poor vision are: inability to focus well, redness, tearing, swelling,
itchiness, burning, blurred vision, sensitivity to glare, headaches, decreased concentration,
difficulty adjusting to light, worsening nearsightedness, combination of nicotine, sugar, and caffeine may temporarily affect vision.

Positive ways to handle eyestrain, eye fatigue & poor night vision are:
- Take proper eye supporting nutrients (e.g., bilberry, zinc, lutein, lycopene, Vitamin A)
- Take a 10 minute rest. Lie down, close your eyes and place a cold compress on your eyes.
- Take frequent breaks
- Pull over for a moment and focus on something in the distance
- Try to control glare with antireflective coating on your glasses and windshield
- Keep your glasses and windshield clean
- Remove contacts after 24 hours
- Have regular eye exams
- Eat a proper diet (include broccoli, cabbage, carrots, green vegetables, sunflower seeds; avoid sugar)
- Get proper rest
